Based in the Beeston area of Leeds Youth Worx is an exciting project that has been created to address the needs of its local community.
Many see Beeston as a problem because of the poor housing and the many derelict buildings - we see it as an area with potential, particularly amongst its young people. Youth Worx wants to look beyond the addiction problems and bedsits to the potential that the area has from its most valuable resource - its young people.
A recent tidy up campaign in the area found 300 used needles in one garden
46.3% of households are effected by unemployment in the area
Nearly 25% of the local population (16,313) are aged between 5-19 yrs
Crime and disorder is high with over 5,000 crimes being reported in the area annually
45% of households are on housing benefit.
A challenge indeed!
